How does a library benefit Charles City County?

Charles City County’s commitment goes beyond a commitment to our community, alone. By the conscientious way we plan to build, we are also making an important commitment to the environment. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a third-party certification for the design, construction and operation of green buildings, is based on six key areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection, indoor environmental quality, and innovative design.

Our use of LEED practices ensures that the new library in Charles City County:

  • Has the least impact on the environment (for example, we plan to use local materials and suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint)
  • Achieves a high level of indoor environmental quality for the health of both staff and users
  • Efficiently manages long-term operation and maintenance costs operation
